Elizabeth’s Nest acknowledged the importance of Youth Day on the 16th of June 2017. This event was held in commemoration and celebration of the tenacity and courage that was displayed by the youth of our country.

 

Youth Day acknowledges the important role and sacrifice that the youth of South Africa played in the struggle for liberation.  Many learners of Soweto had demonstrated against the adoption of Afrikaans as a mandatory language in the school curriculum as it was a third language for most.  Unfortunately, these children faced unnecessary aggression from the police and many had lost their lives.

We acknowledge the importance of the youth of our country.  They are our future and ought to be handled with care.  We pray for the lost lives of our children on the 16th of June 1976 and pray that this type of travesty never occurs again.
